Introduction

Welcome to Baines School! This page will give you all the information you need regarding joining us in Year 7, so please keep coming back for new updates. You will find information on our team, key dates, a look at the school and some important documents for you to download and sign if you haven’t already.

You may also find some information in our Headteacher updates, which can be found on the main page of our website.

We are currently visiting all of our feeder schools to meet our new students, as well as the Year 6 teachers and other key staff to gather as much of the important information we need to ensure we can best support each and every student.

Induction Evening Information

On Thursday 4th July we will be holding our information evening for parents of children starting with us in September.  Please keep this date in your diary.

On Friday 5th July we will host our new students for the day!  Please see the flyers on the website for more information.

The Year 7 Team

Meet our Year 7 team!

(L-R) Mrs Streetly, Mrs Russell and Mrs Polakovs

Mrs Russell – Head of Year/ Progress Leader for Year 7 Mrs Russell oversees the whole year group and is an experienced Head of year.  Her focus is to ensure all year 7 students are progressing both academically and socially to ensure the best start for their time at Baines.  The good habits formed with Mrs Russell in year 7 will set them up for future years.  Nil Sine Labore!

Mrs Streetly – Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Year 7 and Transition Lead.  Mrs Streetly has been both a progress tutor and head of year and is there to support both the staff and students with their journey from year 6 in to year 7.  She is also the Assistant Head for Mental Health and Wellbeing; at Baines we understand how difficult the transition phase can be and this is reflected in her area of expertise.

Year 7 Progress Tutors – In September you will meet your new Progress Tutor.  For parents, these people are the first point of contact in school and will happily resolve queries.  Emails are preferable as due to teaching timetables they are not always able to answer calls.  For students, they are your ‘parent within school’ – their priority is to ensure you are following the school rules; making progress; and, most of all, are happy and settled in our school.

The Pastoral Team & Penny – We have a wonderful team of pastoral staff, led by Mrs Moxham, who help our students on a day-to-day basis with support both with social and emotional needs but also supporting our students with maintaining behaviour standards and expectations.  Penny is our Gold Standard therapy dog.  Penny works with our students who may be struggling emotionally but she is also great with building leadership and resilience in our young people as they take part in her further training and learn commands to support Penny too!
