The Year 7 Team
Meet our Year 7 team!

Mrs Russell – Head of Year/ Progress Leader for Year 7 Mrs Russell oversees the whole year group and is an experienced Head of year. Her focus is to ensure all year 7 students are progressing both academically and socially to ensure the best start for their time at Baines. The good habits formed with Mrs Russell in year 7 will set them up for future years. Nil Sine Labore!
Mrs Streetly – Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Year 7 and Transition Lead. Mrs Streetly has been both a progress tutor and head of year and is there to support both the staff and students with their journey from year 6 in to year 7. She is also the Assistant Head for Mental Health and Wellbeing; at Baines we understand how difficult the transition phase can be and this is reflected in her area of expertise.
Mrs Polakovs – Pastoral Lead for Year 7 Mrs Polakovs the person to speak to if you have any worries or concerns during the school day. She is happy to help and is an expert with friendship issues, organisation skills, building confidence for transition and worries about lessons. You can find Mrs Polakovs at break or lunch if you need her or ask one of the year 7 progress tutors for a suitable time to meet to discuss any concerns. We’d rather help you quickly than let things linger on – a problem shared is a problem halved.
Year 7 progress tutors – In September you will meet your new Progress Tutor. For parents, these people are the first point of contact in school and will happily resolve queries. Emails are preferable as due to teaching timetables they are not always able to answer calls. For students, they are your ‘parent within school’ – their priority is to ensure you are following the school rules; making progress; and, most of all, are happy and settled in our school.
Rufus – Wellbeing Dog. Rufus has been a member of the Baines family for several years now. His main home is in the pastoral office with Mr Spence but you will see him wandering around the yard and field during breaks and lunches. He loves a good scratch behind the ears and has a wonderful temperament. Rufus loves: Treats, afternoon naps, cuddles, playing fetch, rolling around in muck, walks in the countryside, happy and smiley pupils. He dislikes: Bath time, his rain jacket, thunder, trips to the groomers and fireworks.
