Welcome to the ILC
What we do
The ILC is situated in L block and offers students a comfortable, and well-stocked area, to come and complete homework and read.
With over 8,000 books, a selection of magazines and 31 PCs, we have something to offer students of all year groups.
All students are automatically added to our online library system, Accessit, so borrowing can begin as soon as a student joins our school.
Students can borrow up to five books at a time (fiction for three weeks and non-fiction for two weeks) and books can be renewed at any time by the librarian, or by using Accessit.
Our fiction section is organized by genre, making choosing a book clear and accessible. The books are also colour coded and arranged according to reading ages. The reading ages are used as a guide, and also provide students with a layout that encourages them to challenge themselves by moving up the colour coded system.
We have 8 student librarians who help during their lunch. The position teaches teamwork, organization and responsibility.
Students in year 7- 9 have an ILC lesson once every two weeks with their English teacher. The lessons focus on our Read Around programme that links literacy to all the subjects that student’s study. Students are also given reading time during their lesson, which gives students a chance to borrow, renew or return their books, and have some quiet time to read.
The ILC has a Stationary Shop that is equipped with everything a student may need.
During each lunch break the ILC works on a daily timetable that is shown below. Students are encouraged to use the ILC for homework, group study and reading.
