Safer Internet Day 2019
On Tuesday 5th February 2019, it was Safer internet day and we marked the day in school throughout the week. Over the course of the week the students took part in a range of activities in form and had assemblies led by Mrs Doherty.
Social Media is one of the key ways in which our young people use the internet. Did you know that Facebook is still the most used Social Media for young people aged between 12-15year olds, but snapchat usage is increasing the most with 58% of young people now using the platform. This week we have encouraged the students to review their security settings on Social Media and to have a spring clean of their friends and followers. If you would like to do the same then you can find checklists which provide tips and guidance on how to use safety and privacy features on a range of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat on.
We know that the internet provides so many useful ways to further our young people’s knowledge and understanding of our world as well as supporting their studies. We know that our students’ parents and carers want to support the efforts made in school in ensuring that our students stay safe online. You can find a ‘Parent’s guide to online safety’ in the Safeguarding section of our website http://baines.lancs.sch.uk/safeguarding/supporting-parents-with-online-safety/
