GCSE World War One Battlefields Trip
Every year the History Department take Year 10 History GCSE students to the First World War battlefields of Belgium and France.
We base the trip around the city of Ypres in Belgium. Totally destroyed by conflict during the war, it was rebuilt in its former style retaining the Medieval architecture of the cloth hall and cathedral.
We visit many sites in Belgium and France, including cemeteries, tunnels and trenches. Some of our visits include excursions to,
The’ In Flanders Fields’ Museum
Sanctuary Wood Museum
Tyne Cot cemetery
Langemark German cemetery
Ypres town. This includes an evening visit to attend the last post ceremony at the Menin Gate at 20.00hrs
La Boiselle – Lochnagar crater
