By studying photography you will open yourself to one of the most expressive and thought provoking mediums that is available. Photographers can provide a view of the world that we had not thought existed, they can challenge our preconceptions and break stereotypes. Potential students would benefit from owning their own camera, this does not need to be an expensive model but having manual controls would be an advantage. What is more important is your enthusiasm for life and the world we live in. As part of the course you be expected to share your view of how we live our lives and explore the environment around us.

Why a Creative Education?

We now live in an ever changing world and our lives are shaped by the visual culture and technology we experience every day. The way new products work and how they look form a vital part of our lives. An understanding of this is vital Our future success lies in the creative and original use of new technologies. New careers are in the knowledge based economy and new creative industries. A creative education gives the opportunity for students to explore their imagination and express themselves, using both traditional and the latest digital techniques.

Unit 1: Portfolio – Candidates develop a coursework portfolio exemplifying work carried out during the AS course.

Unit 2: Externally-Set Assignment – A controlled test that is based upon thorough planning and research. There is a compulsory 5hr control element to be carried out under exam conditions. Guided preparation time would begin at the start of February, when exam topics arrive from the exam board.

Unit 3: Personal Investigation – Candidates are required to develop a personal investigation based on an idea, issue, concept or theme of their choosing. This module will contain a piece of structured, individual writing. This written piece will then form the basis of an extended photography portfolio.

Unit 4: Externally-Set Assignment – A controlled test that is based upon thorough planning and research. There is a compulsory 15hr control element to be carried out under exam conditions.
