Beyond the Classroom

In order to give broad and balanced development, we encourage all our pupils to become involved in voluntary activities outside lesson time.

A wide range of opportunities exists for Baines students to become involved in cultural school visits. In recent years, these have included visits to Belgium, Poland, France, Germany, Japan, India and Nepal. Field visits to the Lake District and the local area, along with  art gallery visits, further enhance cultural opportunities a little closer to home.

As a school, we are very active in the music world with an Orchestra, Swing Band, Carnival Band, Percussion Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, String Ensemble, School Choir, Sixth Form Band, a variety of Pop Groups and a Mixed Choir. A music competition is now firmly established. The school also provides peripatetic instrumental lessons for students from Years 7 to13.

We have a range of sporting opportunities for our students with teams in sports such as Netball Football and Rugby and we take part in local and regional competitions. Our Year 12 students have the opportunity to take part in the annual Bikeathon with students cycling from Bridlington to Blackpool over a weekend to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. We have a strong charity aspect within our sixth form and in the Academic year 2015-2016 we have nominated Trinity Hospice as the sixth form charity of the year and will be looking to raise money and awareness of the charity throughout the year.
